Even with the valve in place coolant still flows through the upper hose to the valve at all times. If the valve is closed the coolant flows back through the lower hose bypassing the heater core, if the valve is open coolant flows through the heater core than back through the lower hose.

Finally got around to replacing my "Modified" Failsafe thermostat today.......
I used the high-flow, balanced one from Mr Gasket (the same one that Hesco sells) I got it for $11.00
I also like the fact that it's "Made in USA"!
It doesn't have a jiggle valve for a bleed, but it does have a small notch in it with a tiny hole for a bleed. I installed it facing up.
I'm sure it will perform better than the Motorad Failsafe one that I had.........I'll post back after it's been in for awhile.

Went to the dealership I used to work at today. Drove a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk with the 2.4L four cylinder.
Went to see my old buddy George in the Parts Department and we checked out the factory thermostats.
83501426 is a 195* stat with 3 gaskets in the box.
52028186 is just the 195* stat. No gaskets. About $7 cheaper.
Same stat either way.

I'm tired and lazy also, but have a penchant for being facetious.

That looks allot like the failed T-stat that I replaced with with what Napa gave me a few years back. That one functioned, but didn't quite seal when closed. Now I have the Mopar...it seems better.

Report on my MotoRad unit: not too promising yet. However, I believe there to be air in the system yet to bleed out. I am still getting temp fluctuations while cruising. At idle though, it seems good enough holding at 210.
Hopefully as air purges out this problem will resolve because it heats up faster and when the temp fluctuates down, it is quick to heat back up to 210.

Well, I thought I'd add my recent situation to this thread. I have a Napa 195° stat that wasn't giving me problems until my heat started going cold again about a week ago. Perfect timing, when it's 0 degrees out and I can't defrost my windows. I'm going to pick up a Mopar stat from the stealership today. I thought the NAPA's were fine, but I should've listened!
