Still seems like the dealer stat is the best so far. We have some guinea pigs trying out some other MotoRad stats. Stay tuned.

I would say somewhere in the 190-200 range...........Never got up to the 210 line on the gauge.

A t-stat should not be tested in boiling water.....it's not exposed to boiling water inside the motor. Use a cooking thermometer to monitor temp at which the stat begins to open and the temp when the stat reaches wide open. Wide open should be about 15 degrees above the open temp.

If the air can't get out you can overheat the engine after changing the thermostat. If you get a thermostat that does't have the hole, simple drill a 1/8" hole in the flange. When you install the thermostat make sure the hole is up.
The small brass plug (jiggle valve) only bleeds air when the motor is not running. When the motor is running, the valve is closed and air/coolant bleed thru the dime sized hole beside the t-stat (the bypass loop). Drilling a bleed hole in the flange just slows/delays the coolant warm-up time because coolant will flow thru the bleed hole and thru the rad when the motor is cold, delaying warm-up. Both open and closed cooling systems will bleed/burp air during the normal engine heat/cool cycles as long as proper coolant levels are maintained at all times.

190*-200* sounds perfect for a 195* stat in cold ambient temps and using the heater. Just seems to me that a properly functioning 195* "fail safe" stat would have a "fail open" threshold of say 235*-240*.

The fail safe I just changed never even made it to 210 and it still locked open.

There's 83501426 and 52028186. Don't know the difference. Ask to see both at the dealer and let us know.
