OEM Trailer hookup
Hi I have a 94 XJ 2-door 4x4. My old hitch was rotted to death and so I bought a replacement and installed it myself. The previous owner cut the 7 pin connector and tried to add a 4 pin. When I inspected it all that was left was the black line hooked up. I purchased a dual hook (4plug and 7pin) because I was purchasing a trailer and didn't know what the hookup was going to be...
Anyway I lookup what I could find but my wires were not the regular colors of standard jeep wires. I tried to wire up but only could get one brake light to work. I don't want to bypass the factory wires because then I will have all this extra wires. All I need to know is what wires are the colors incase I have to add one of those 5 wire to 4 wires.
My trailer isn't a normal trailer, its a Comanche rear half with the rear taillights wired into a 4pin wire. Any help would be really appreciated

If you don't want to splice. Uhaul and few other places has quick connects that "t" in place. I install wiring/hitches for a living and some folks just don't wanna splice.

I do have a multi-meter but i must confess, i am terrible at using them... i never seem to get the same numbers as anyone else and some times i get no readings. I was going to take the truck to uhaul but they were backed up until next week.
I know of quick connects but do not like them. They short out and cause bad connections. In an emergency yes, they're fine. But i would never leave them for the long haul, expecially on outside wires.
I didnt drive the jeep so i will check in the morning the wore colors and snap a photo...
Now i was able to find a trailer place hiden in town that was able to get everything hooked up quick... He used quick connects to, and showed me how he wired it and everything and where the best places to reroute it would be as well as to redo connections.
It works great although i noticed the trailer lights are a bit weak looking and the blinkers flash a bit quicker, but it was done quick and cost a song

If you go behind where the spare tire sits and remove the panel, there is a place where a store bought connector is supposed to connect to. maybe you can find a picture on this or one of the other jeep sites using the search mode. I would check and see if this connection has been messed with.

I just realized you mean the hook ups that plug right in... i would have done that but i didnt want the extra wiring from the oem wires and i had already installed a 7pin and 4pin conbo and didnt want to waste it. Quick connects to me means "skotch locks"
