You guys got me thinking, I guess if it locked the converter, it would stay locked decelerating as well. I wonder how much that would help going down my hill in 2nd at 30-40 mph.
Yea! "threw a wrench", Cruiser, I mainly just wanted him to see the pic of the TCU plug/Wires.
So Slick....sounds you found there could be harmonic issues with a VW crank? How'd that work?

BTW Flintstone, I wired a switch into my MJ yesterday so I can prevent TC lockup or take it out of lockup on hills.

In the Alfa Romeo world. They call that the Italian tune up. They actually recommend that you drive the crap out of those cars every now and then. Granted the 4.0l is a completely different motor. I've still heard that its a good idea to push your motor hard every now and then. Is that true?
I think it's a good idea to twist them up once in a while. I always do. 5,000 RPM blasts don't hurt them at all.

He also told me that the high volume oil pump was a mil-spec design for the US Military as they used 4.0s in something and wanted the HV pump and different oil pan to accomodate it.
As you guys are tired of hearing, I'm sure, is that the biggest single factor that has adversely affected the oiling systems on the 4.0s is crappy oil filters with no or poor anti-drainback valves.

Ya I put an stp on it cause its what I had that day. I'm starting to get slightly dry starts after 1000 miles. I'm putting a wix 51182 (same threads and stuff, fits renix, bigger capacity and higher bypass psi, made for forklifts). I was thinkin hopefully that crappy filter is what's causing my oil pressure issue. I went wheeling last weekend and after prolonged low speed driving my pressurize went down to 10 at idle. A little touch of the throttle (bringing it to 1200 rpm) brought the pressure back to about 25-30. I notice my last wix filter i would run 60 psi or so cold start. With the stp its always 40. Thoughts?

Ok so I put the new wix on and added oil. Much better. Now the oil pressurize is higher. Before when I revved to 3k it wouldn't go higher then 40psi. Now it goes up to 55 psi and might go higher. Cause I didn't hold it at that rpm. Amazing. Plus I'm holding a half a quart of extra oil. I would certainly recommend this higher capacity filter to all renix drivers. It was 9$ and no one keeps it stocked but I ordered it Wednesday at oreilly and had it Thursday so keep that in mind if you want to change your oil.

Great news man! I used the regular Wix filter on my 89. I only used wix and Mobile 1 5w30 and the Jeep was very happy with that mix. Higher capacity filter seems like it hit your jeeps sweet spot! Renix Jeeps are the best IMO!

OK. So Fram is bad and Wix is good. Make a note of that.
