oil in air filter
#2
When I got my 1988 cherokee I had the same problem, I spent all weekend after I got it cleaning every darn hose vacuum or not, and cleaned every sensor and valve cleaning up the mess it made including throttle body and intake manifold inside and out. Still does it alittle bit but its not soaking the filter like it was, so I'm going to keep following this post. Good luck

I have been reading into this issue. I have the same problem and I dont like oil in places where there should be no oil. I found a thread on naxja where a guy installed a device called an envalve- google it.
I just took my valve cover off and cleaned it all out, etc. but if that does not fix it I will be buying an envalve setup. From what I understand the device is california CARB certified which at very least says the thing is legit on some level.

out through the intake?
If my understanding is correst there is no pcv valve on this model. 91 XJ. It is instead called ccv. I believe it's supposed to be hooked through vacum on the rear end of the cover and hooked to fresh air on the front side on the cover for example the filter box. The problem I'm having is that the air/oil/fuel mixture is coming out of the front tube. I disconnected the tube from my air box after soaking the filter and the box and bought one of those auto parts store little intake filters. Installed it and now it is coming out of that filter. I actually just did it, and it's like it's exhausting smoke out of the filter. I've only driven a few miles. I'm leaving like that for now. It can't be worse than soaking the air filter. I'm going to check my vacum next to see if maybe I'm not getting enough vacum through the vacum hose. Anybody got any ideas/ delt with this problem/ fixed it before?? Do I have the intake and exhaust of the ccv backwards??

i had the same problem when i first got my jeep .. i took the air box lid off and where the vent tube from the valve cover to the air box lid there is a little filter thing in there and mine crumbled out of there and thats where all the oil was coming from.. i put a cai on it and just took that line off completly by putting a breather on the end coming out of the valve cover .. no more oil

mine does that too. dont those pcv's work one way? let air in and nothing out? i was thinking of puttin one of those on with a grommet, then the L shaped hose connecter to that and to the airbox. then hope it doesnt get clogged up like every week or so.

its called BLOW BY. you might have it bad or might have it a little or you just may have a crap load of junk clogging up your crank case vent causeing the pressure to build in cvalve cover and let out the middle elbow...you should replace all vac lines and clean and or replace valve cover for best results...i did it and i no longer have one drop of oil in my filter. bad previous matenance can case excesive grunge build up in crank case vent....wich will (can) cause all pressure to build up in valve cover forcing air and oil out of the middle elbow on your valve cover...I bought a kit from jeep dealer because jeep realized this issue years back and made up a kit to help with blow by or fix the problem all together..... THIS LINK WILL EXPLAIN ALOT ABOUT OIL IN YOUR AIRFILTER ,,,

trust me if you saw the ammount of oil day to day going in my air box youd believe in what im saying...i cant garantee that you have the problem i had because some are to far gone when blowby occurs it could take years of adding oil or you could have a rod drop out someday youll never know..wouldnt hurt to do what i did though i noticed big difference in jeep after.

I had this problem also on my '94 XJ. These come with the ccv system, not the pvc. How it works is the front hose to the air box is to draw in fresh air, and the rear hose that goes to the intake provides the vaccum. The problem with mine was the there is a small pad/filter on the inside of the valve cover that blocks the oil from going into the intake, that was all gummed up, and the hose to the intake was blocked, replaced both of those, (cleaned the pad/filter) and everything went back to normal. no more oil in air box!!!
I think a one legged duck would swim in circles, can we get proof of this? LMAO

oh and if we figure out if the duck will swin only in circles the i wanna find some more out.....]

There are people that just take a hose coming from the pcv and make it end in some resevoir (gatorade bottle, one person told me) and then just dump it out when It gets filled up. I don't think this is the right way to go about it, but its a way to not get Oil in your air filter.
As for the causes of this, It can have to do with the ccv, but also many other things, like not offsetting your piston rings, or maybe a broken ring. This can obviously cause a lot more blowby.
I've been having blowby since the first day I got my jeep, even after a rebuild, with the valves all cleaned up and cleaned valve cover. I'm going to check out if mine has the pad/filter that you mentioned, because that would make sense why things would not work correctly.

It's all good man. That's why we are here to share idea's and discuss them, there is no real right or wrong. I was just posting what worked for me. May not work for other people. I go on here all the time just to look up new things.
