Oil Filter
I just spent 3 days trying to find a gentle way to remove a stuck oil filter. Day 3 was concluded with a crow bar and a hammer driving the threaded ring off of the housing. The threads arent damaged and the old filter was removed. Now the new filter is hitting the block and wont go on. Is it possible i have turned the adapter housing? I read the threads about replacing the O-rings and was wondering if it needs to be loosened and moved?

You might have moved it, but wait for someone else to confirm that. If that is the case, you can correct it. For future reference, a razor blade can get in and cut up the little gasket, even a small screwdriver. Then your filter will come off without much problem. Might help to research before beating the hell out of something, so you don't have to research how to fix it after

If you think you may have damaged the oil filter adapter, consider simply removing it all together. Below is a link to the thread which describes the reletively simple procedure which eliminates the oil leak problem associated with adapter o-ring. As a bonus there is not cost other than the price of a new filter (as long as you already have the tools).

In the future apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket on the oil filter.

I have had a problem getting my filter off before, took me about an hour and a half. When i was done the filter looked like it went through a tornado. But the thing that finally got it off is i just cranked it and warmed the engine up. It finally started to turn after that. I had always done oil changes cold, never again. When i was going through that i noticed i turned the filter housing, i just turned it back. Seems fine, i checked after and didn't see leaks so i guess its ok.

for future reference, when all else fails, take a screw driver and a hammer and drive the screwdriver through the filter. Much better leverage than oil filter wrenches. Have on occassion been known to overtighten myself.
