Default Oil filter for 90 Renix?

The filter I have is napa part # 1626 gold filter but it's white not the black one.
For some reason today I thought I had the wrong filter and was reading some where on here that most people like napa gold #1085 or Napa gold #1515 none of these worked for me.
Had to screw the 1626 back on.

Q. What one is the correct one for my 1990 4.0 tc.242??
Q. Why won't the 1085 and 1515 Napa golds work on my application?
Q. Is it possible to have the wrong filter and still have it fit?
Sorry for the *** questions =still learning and loving every step of the way..
Thanks

Most Cherokees '90 and earlier have a metric thread to mount the oil filter. This is likely the reason the other filters you tried didn't fit; they are intended for '91 and later models. You will find endless opinions on which oil filter is better than another, but generally speaking, if it fits correctly, it's the correct one for your vehicle.

Or you could convert the filter mount nipple to the newer style and use those more common filters.

Just get the correct WIX or NAPA Gold filter (same thing) from a parts supplier.

Yes the NAPA "Gold and Silver lines along with the NASCAR race filters are all WIX filters, just under the NAPA name is all. I have ran their Race filters since 1999 on my race cars and HP street cars all remote setups for easy change and able to fill filter with oil before install.

Not exactly. There are different drain back valves and overall quality. Unless they changed Fram is among the worse.

Yes, just pick up a Napa gold (1626 sounds right). Like said, Renix is metric, then they changed in 91.

Wow, thanks for all that info guys.... Napa gold #1626 is what I'll stick with.
Q. My filter sits straight up,
should I face it sideways so it will hold more oil when cold starting?
Also does the color of the filter matter black or white? as long as it's a NAPA Gold right?

Napa Gold is black. Napa Silver is white.

Don't screw with moving the adapter sideways.

That's right. Just leave it stock like AMC/Jeep/Renault intended.

Think they changed the color ? Box just says (original Gold) and the filter just says Napa...
Does this look right? Agh
