Nice
Make sure you remove the old o ring if stuck, dip your finger in some new oil, and coat the new o ring, and pour a small amount of new oil into the filter when re-installing...oh yeah, hand tight ONLY

Just do a drain and fill, several times. Drain, fill, drive for 15-20 minutes, repeat, until you see clean fluid. Don't fuss with the filter, it's just a screen.

^ This. And glad to you got the filter off without resorting to something like rustybucket did. I've had some rough moments with filters due to someone else's carelessness, but I've never seen anything like that.

A stuck oil filter is usually because the of the rubber seal at the bottom of the filter. Tighten it too tight and you'll likely 'strip' the threads on top of the filter when trying to remove it.
The 'grabber' oil wrench doesn't use the threads. It actually works pretty well.
The other way is to somehow break the seal loose by using a razor or standard screwdriver/flat bladed chisel and hammer. Go around the base of the filter and break the rubber seal.

rusty bucket - Now that's a solution I've never seen!
As said when putting a new filter on be sure to lubricate the seal with a bit of engine oil. Otherwise it will get stuck to the block/adapter.
