Growing up I always used fram, until this thread, I've never heard of the failures of their filters. I have recently switch to napa gold, but that was more because of the deals I get on them. What about using lucas oil additive when comparing it to royal purple?

Great Stuff Diesel! Thanks for that run down. I know that the WIX is the way to go but on a internals view is the Purolator pretty comparable in quality?

I know that I watched the videos on youtube comparing the internals and thought the Puralator was pretty strong.. Let me know what you all think.. thanks

Purolator has the best filtering system as of now, but some say it restricts too much. Only thing Ive noticed is a small jump(5psi) in oil pressure.

Many filters are very good, purolator, mobile1, wix, napa, all very good.

Lucas:
Residual Oil, Petroleum Solvent Refined
CAS: 64742014
Concentration <60%

Its pretty much gear oil and some additives.

I work at NAPA and we have a display on the counter that compares dissected Fram and Wix filters. Compared to the Wix, the Fram pleats look like fabric softener sheets!! I avoid Fram products like the plague.

I DO however like the textured bottom of the Fram. Good idea, but not nearly good enough to compensate for such poor quality.

Personally, I stick to Wix or Mopar filters (or Motorcraft for my fords). Castrol 10W30 oil. I'd like to run Amsoil or Mobil 1 synthetic, but with 150K plus miles, I'm afraid that the switch would be bad on the seals.

Napa Gold #1085, Ftw...

While on this topic... I've experienced Fram filter failure (in a 400hp Chevy motor) and it wasn't fun. The filter element collapsed and forced the oil through the bypass. But on a side note, the Wal Mart near my house started carrying the Mopar 090 filter. I figure you can't go wrong using the Mopar filter, and if I get the installation just right, the Jeep logo is straight up...

as said above, the mopar is a good filter. It is made by wix.
If you want, go to your local napa and get a napa silver for a couple bucks cheaper, or a napa gold for about the same price. The napa silver is the same thing, just cheaper. The gold is about the same price as the mopar, but a better filter.
