Like everyone else said, probably your sensor.
Bee careful though when I lost the oil pump on my '01 XJ about a year ago, it didn't make a peep, neither did the motor when it reached 0 psi on two occasions, it was really weird, ussually you would hear something. Just saying to be careful and not completly rely on the oil pump making noise to let you know it's dying. Like the guys here said though, it's probably wires or sending unit, just need to verify it.

My 2001 oil pressure is always between 40-50.. Whether that is normal I do not know.

I have a similar problem but can't seem to find a mechanical sensor replacement. Where should I look. I have a 91 XJ.

A mechanical sending unit would be included with a mechanical gauge. Look on Auto Meter's web site, that will give you a good idea of what is out there as far as quality gauges go. If you are talking about a mechanical sending unit for the gauge that is in the car, you aren't going to find one, becuase the gauge in the car is an electric gauge and therefore uses an electic sending unit.
