Oil is too complicated for the average person to ever understand when getting technical with it.

I believe it is due to the high zinc content in the engine oil, and perhaps depending on location, it might be the most easily found.

Lots of people are also onvinced they need to run 20W-50 in the summer too, under the mistaken notion that their oil temps are significantly higher in the summer than winter.

i understand it perfectly. thank you. you chart show my understanding is correct thank you.

Thanks for all the comments guys! I've certainly learned alot from all of you. Because of scarce availability I will forego the Rotella this time around and try the Valvoline full synthetic high mileage 10w30 with half a quart of MMO and the Mopar filter. I'll let you know if the jeep runs differently. Thanks again!!

Where abouts in S FL? I live here in West Palm Beach, so any personal help, feel free to message me. I've been using Valvoline Max Life 10-30 for years just fine. As for heat, yeah it can get hot, but cooling system maintenence is a must. (I also have Napier Hood Vents and a fan clutch delete hub).

Outlaw, thank you. I live in Miami. The cooling system is my next priority. I'm quite interested in your fan clutch idea, what kind of mpg do you get city vs highway? I'm guessing the fan clutch is where my problem lies, and I'm going to take a look at that tomorrow. What has been done so far on cooling system:
-replaced and flushed radiator, tried to backflush heater core, not sure I did a good enough job.
-replaced radiator hoses (Mopar)
-replaced AC fan, replaced a relay
-replaced thermostat.

Follow-up post. A year ago my brakes failed while I was in slow traffic and I ran into another vehicle. It was not a bad accident and the other party simply went on. I had my jeep towed to my mechanic who replaced the master brake cylinder and the radiator (which had been damaged and was leaking) with a new aftermarket version. (I believe the first mechanic had put a used one in and it was rusty inside). Since then, I have not had any problems with overheating in traffic even in summer and I have not done any other modifications.
