I think he meant "tap". A "shade-tree' trick for a small screw, cut a strip of "shim stock" (which you won't find). With wood, we can shove more wood in the hole, then the screw holds.
Short of drilling and taping to the next size, just putting something in there to take up space for (fresh , new threads), might get it to grip.

Sort of what I was getting at. Since most can't just get some "shim stock" I was thinking of narrow strips of "beverage" can.
I HAVE heard of paper clips. Can you get those online? Are they metric, or SAE? Sounds worth looking into....
