oil pooring out of intake filter box

The one instance I can think of was a guy who had a Chevy Pickup and was a courior, got a million miles on the original transmission and engine, I wonder if it being about 95% highway miles and trips that averaged 200miles at a pop

I agree with your earlier post, a new engine will ultimately be the cure. I am a mechanic and had a cust a few years back who was a courier for canadian tire, he logged 750,000 km on a 1995 caravan before we ever put a wrench to it! at that time we did some seals and a timing chain. Good maintenance and hwy miles thingswill last a long time.

When I take off the large hose on the front of the valve cover while the engine is running, there is no noticeable blowby, but there's also no suction.
Maintenance is paramount. I drive an average of 180,000 miles a year mostly on my '06 Civic (435,000 miles on the odometer). The transmission died at 350,000 miles (my fault) but the engine was still in perfect shape (no ticks, no knocks, no oil consumption, still got 35 mpg) but replaced it with a spare engine along with the transmission for preventative measure. Just change your oil and filters AND transmission fluid at regular intervals and it'll last forever.
I know this XJ's previous owner didn't take care of it. Both differentials had water and heavy gunk in them. The oil was black and the oil filter was the incorrect size. The rear brake hardware looked like it was original and half of it was falling apart and there was uneven shoe wear. Brake fluid was a deep brown. Both engine mounts were busted. Serpentine belt was partially torn. All the rubber (bushings, hoses, etc) were expanded on the driver's side due to oil leaking from the intake filter box. It's in good hands now though, everything's fixed except the oil leak, but that's for this week along with a new urethane transmission mount.
I'm going to take off the valve cover, clean it, then replace the large CCV hose and install a catch can for now. I may consider a rebuild, but not until after this winter.
Thanx for all ur help.
