I followed all the directions in the Chilton's manual and it didn't help. After I got the pan out and was trying to finagle it back in I said SCREW THIS and took a hammer to it to dent in the pan to make it fit.

Maybe I didn't jack the vehicle high enough to allow the suspension to drop far enough. I jacked the engine up as far as it would go while it was unbolted from the frame. Not the most fun ever IMO.
