oil pressure acting weird.. alternator going out
so come to find out, the stock alternators dont like mud, sand or water.. especially mixed. well my alternator is pretty much shot.. and i dont have any voltage the dash gauge like expected. but whats weird is my oil pressure is really really high. like sometimes itll hit past 80 than come back down.. it kinda bounces around a little. my pressure has been reading around 60psi tops and around 25-30 idle after warm up mostly cause i used a quart of 20-50 oil and some lucas. is this just a symptom of not having proper voltage?

I'd like to know this as well. Ever since I upgraded all my main batt cables and grounds my oil gauge consistently reads 20psi higher than it used to......

Low voltage will cause all kinds of weirdness with sensors and gauges. Once you have the charging system fixed, everything else should check out ok.

You could also have gotten some water/sand/mud into the oil pressure sensor connector. It's located down low on the engine, right next to the oil filter, about the same height as the alternator. Unplug it and clean the connections. If you plan on treating it to a mud bath a lot, get some electrical waterproofing grease (dialectric?) and coat the contacts liberally.

yeah i was thinking low voltage might have been messing it up... and now my jeep has more power now that its not having the alternator pulling any drag... but thats going to be put to an end today hopefully

If you need an alternator, I've got a spare on the '94. Not sure if it's interchangable, though, or if it is if it's even any good.

thanks but im going to do the zj alt. upgrade and get the 136A instead of the 100A. from what i've read its an easy swap and can be done with minmal trimming of the alt. bracket.
