oil pressure guage completely stuck at 3 ' o clock position even turned off
Hi,
in my 97 Jeep (UK) I've got a problem on the oil pressure gauge, I've read a lot on here about the sender problem however I'm puzzled a bit..
My gauge is stuck in the 3 o clock position even with the engine completely off, warmed up, rev'ing etc. i.e. it is ALWAYS at the 3 o clock position and does not move at any point in time.
If i disconnect the oil pressure sender it makes no difference what-so-ever.
My gauge is labelled up to '5.4' so I dont think its the same gauge as in the US model? pic attached
Thanks
Chris

That is how the gages on my 90 look when running. Volts at 9 and OP at 80+. I have checked all of the wiring connections under the hood. I think I am going to have to pull the dash to fix this problem.

I had the sending unit problem with my gauge. With power off, gauge would rest at zero, when I turned power on, gauge would go to middle-ish, with engine running it would always be pegged at 3 o-clock. I replaced the sending unit, now it reads "normal".
Since yours doesn't change at all with either power on/off or engine on/off, I would say it's the gauge. maybe it's just stuck and all you have to do is take it apart and shake it some. Then again, knowing XJ gauges, you will likely have to replace it. My voltmeter is all kinds of wrong, verified by my multimeter, repeatedly. I ignore it. You could borrow an oil pressure gauge to check your ACTUAL pressure then if that's fine just ignore it.
Me? I'd verify normal pressure with an external gauge, then put a little smiley face sticker at 3:00 where the gauge points, just for peace-of-mind and so I wouldn't have to take the dash apart!

i had this problem before with my jeep when i changed the engine oil and filter, it happened .. then i opened the hood and moved that wire next to the oil filter and it got back to normal .. try to move it alittle, and have someone sitting in side to tell u if it gets back to work ..
