Default Oil Pressure Issue - 1995 Jeep Cherokee XJ 2WD

I replaced the oil pressure sensor to a duralast sensor since my old one broke. Everyday when I drive I later notice it’s having some oil pressure issues. It goes below the very first white mark on the gauge and has never done that to me before so it doesn’t sit well with me. It kinda feels like the Jeep is going to quit on me and the oil pressure is fine when I’m going down the road.

my original sensor plug that I put into the duralast has a small wiggle to it and I don’t know if that has something to do with it.

If idea on what I should do let me know

Any help would be great! thank you

I have had no luck with oil pressure sensors other than oem Jeep sensors.... You can always attach a manual gauge at the sensor inlet port and take exact readings from there to verify pressure.

okay. I read on another thread that has a similar issue to mine. It’s that the oil pressure drops at stop lights and they have to keep their foot on the gas to keep it from stalling. they were told clean the IAC and that’ll fix it so they did.

Mine does drop at stop lights but goes perfectly fine when I’m riding down the road or even when I first crank the Jeep. Second time I’m making a trip/when I drive and come to stop lights I see it’s losing oil pressure. So I’m thinking I should look at the IAC and spraying some throttle body in there cleaning it up will help.

The idling at a stop and having to give it gas to keep it from stalling has nothing to do with the oil pressure.

Jeeps, as well as most engine, have a lower oil pressure at idle.

Oil pressure spec. for the Jeep 4.0 is this:

*Not less than 13 psi at HOT idle
*Between 37-75 psi over 1600 rpms

If you're in this zone, you're fine. If you're not, you should verify it with a MECHANICAL gauge as you could have a faulty sending unit, inaccuracy between the sending unit and the gauge, etc.

Verify with a mechanical gauge is a good thing to do. My pressure was scary low even after replacing the sending unit with a cheap one from Advance. I bought a mechanical gauge for $16, installed it in 5 minutes, and drove around with it on the hood for half an hour or so. The mechanical gauge read wayyy higher than the cheap unit. So I bought an OEM Mopar sending unit and now my dash gauge is within 2psi of what the mechanical gauge said.

I replaced my sensor and now it indicates about 60 psi when above idle and down as low as 40 at idle. Before the original failed indications wandered between 15 and 40. I thought about placing a resistor in series with it to get it to indicate what the factory specs call out for oil pressure. Might get a potentiometer and give it a whirl just out of curiosity. Too dang hot here in central FL to mess with stuff these days. Winter project.
