Default Oil pressure sitting at 0 psi for a few seconds on warm start then builds pressure

Hi so I have a 2000 Cherokee sport with the 4.0 and on warm starts my oil pressure will sit at 0 for maybe 4 seconds before it builds pressure. Then after that every thing runs fine. I was wondering what could be causing it because this is my first jeep and first car so I'm kind of a newbie with some stuff. So any advice would be great.

It's pretty common. I wouldn't worry about it.

Do you briefly get a "check gauges" light while this is happening?

It could be the anti-drain back valve (I think its called?) in your oil filter is bad. An oil filter change wouldn't be the worst idea.

Check to make sure the sensor is actually working by hooking up a mechanical gauge instead. Those sensors are known to have problems. I don't even have mine plugged in because it was shorting out my pcm

Yes indeed! I have a Bosch mechanical gauge I picked up on sale at PepBoys, just for that purpose. Less than twenty bucks, out the door.

Takes less than 10 minutes to swap it in, get a reading, and put things back the way they were.
