oil pressure switch

Default oil pressure switch

im trying to locate the oil pressure switch. is there a difference between the switch and the sending unit? the guy at the parts store sold me a oil pressure switch and told me that that will fix my issue with the gauge but i can find the part location that he sold me. i tried to put the new switch on the sending unit connector and it wont fit so im stuck can anyone help me please

The oil pressure sender/switch is the same part and located by the oil filter. If the part you have won't attach in that spot or doesn't look like the old part that is already there, then the parts guy gave you the wrong part.

do you think it might be the sending unit the jeep runs fine other then this weird reading

Yes, I believe it is your pressure sender/switch. 40 psi is pretty normal for cruising. It should be around 20 while idling. The senders are known for getting gummed up and giving incorrect readings. Does your engine knock or make any other associated wierd noises? If not, I'd say your oil pressure is good and you just need a new "correct" oil pressure sender/switch.

You can unscrew the oil pressure sender and get a hand held guage and screw it into the same spot. That will tell you your true oil pressure. If it reads 20 psi or higher at idle then you know you have a bad sender.

yup they get messed up pretty easy and it is a cheap easy fix only like 10 to 20 bucks at most places

no weird noises that i now of . thats of course this is my first jeep so its all weird noises but ill give it a try and see what happens thanks again for the help

hehe, heck my 91 knocks like a Singer sewing machine at idle but, that is just a high mileage 4.0 thing. Get her up off idle ad she purrs like a kitten.
