I haven't read this entire thread but from what I can tell, the good crew is working on it (Cruiser54, freegdr, bigbadon, et al).
Now tell me...
is going on. Page after page, post after post. Is there no end to this?

Hey guys quick question or two here. Im planning to go and get supplies tomorrow and get this done.
The shop vac im planning to borrow im not 100 percent positive if it has the exhaust port. If it doesnt could a can of compressed air/airduster work? And am i just putting this over that threaded center pole that you screw the oil filter on?
Also do i want to drain the oil before i do this? I was thinging the pressure would probably force it back up into the engine and whatnot.

Anything like that would be fine in the way of compressors.
Without looking at an oil flow diagram, I can't tell you where to blow the air.
If you don't drain the oil while using the air, all that will happen would be the same as farting in the bathtub.
Probably best to drain the oil, blow through the filter area, pour some oil through the engine to flush the flakes out the drain plug..

Crimmy...Unscrew the oil filter there are two ports the outlet is the threaded nipple in the center DO NOT use this one. Look below that nipple in about the 4:00 o'clock position and you will see about a i/2 hole...this goes straight to the pump. You need a big burst of air so you will have to improvise a tight connection with your blow-gun nozzle (available at HF for a few bucks).

OK...I'll kick in on this one..because I've been here.
The tar pieces that came out of my pickup screen/tube were SCARY. I did new oil pump, pickup tube/screen, oil pan gasket (FEL PRO ONLY!), and rear main while down there.
I used a CASE of parts cleaner and ALOT of scraping. I made a couple of suction nozzles for my shop vac that helped.
That was almost a year ago. It sounds like a diesel but it's still running.
Now I did alot on the top but I burnt a valve. My head looked about like yours under the cover. I almost got sick to the stomach when I did my valve cover gasket.
Again, while you may not go as far as I did you are going to either take steps or just be REALLY patient and do what has been recommended above.
This engine can take ALOT.
Mine has 260K and my HOT pressue now drops to ~20 at idle and ~40 running.
And these are the right guys to listen. I'm now rock'n a 88 MJ as well as my DD 97 XJ.
And these are additions to the two KJs and a KK already in the family.
