oil psi stuck just under 40, even when engine not on
i thought the sending unit was bad so i changed it with a new one from napa. still not working. if i turn the key to on (but not turning on the engine) it goes up to near 40 psi and stays there. engine on doesnt make a difference. so is it a bad sending unit, short in the wires, or bad dash gauge???

If it zeroes out with the key OFF and jumps with the key ON, check the sender.
If it doesn't zero out, but stays mid-scale with the key OFF, check the gage (it's probably stuck, and you may be able to open the IP up and manually free the gage.)
