Default oil pum

Ok.........Put a rear seal in today and thoght while I was already there I'd pu a new oil pmp in. NOW...I have 0 oil preasure. So I put ANOTHER pump in after taking my line fitting off (put a manual guage in) and finding no oil coming out !! I still have 0 oil preasure. There is only one way the pump can lock to the distributor. Any ideas before I tear this thing apart again? The pumps I have put in are mellings. Also before I installed the second pump I submersed it in the parts washer and used a drill to drive the pump...everything was ok. Can someone help a brother out? This is not a good way to start out my relationship with my cherokee.

you need something thicker than that to prime it. normally the engine oil you are running in your jeep is what you should prime it with.

My bad...I should have been more clear. I did that just to see if it was actually pumping I had already put the first one in and no good. Also I checked the end of the dist to make sur the shaft was ok and tight and it was. Im going to pull the dist back out tommorow and try priming it again? I'm familiar with most all engines but I know nothing about these 4.0's. Is it common to have any issues like this?

I had actually thought about that. Think trying to re-prime would even help. Its worth a shot anyways.

After 20 minutes of priming I now have oil preasure and have 50 psi after oil is up to tempeture and driving its about 60 psi. Im happy since its got 200,000 miles on it but I'm sure it will drop ten or so pounds after several miles get on the oil change. We'll see how she holds up after it gets a few weekends of hell when its done.
