"extra-fine, double mesh, stainless steel washable filter element"

I'm guessing you can prob see the grime seeing as how it's stainless screen, blast it out with some brake kleen

Opinions are like ********. Everybody has one.

No, you're a newbie because you don't have enough experience in miles or years to have a final analysis. If you want to continue experimenting with the OCOD, be my guest.

As I said earlier, I don't play Russian roulette with my engine. I can afford a Mopar or Wix filter and Mobil 1 oil.

The whole thread was started because someone wanted some opinions. As said my family has been using Fram for almost 50 years as far as I know with 0 problems. So how about I will use what I use and you can use what you use then you can go and argue with someone else?

Really? Rotella diesel oil? Interesting. So this will quite it up a bit and not cause damage in the long run? What weight should I go with?
And oh yeah, my 2 cents.....I'm a Ford master tech, working at a dealership....you CAN NOT go wrong using factory parts. A Ford should have a Motorcraft filter on it as a Jeep should have a Mopar filter on it.

My family used FRAMs for a long time as well. Ever car made it well over 200,000 miles. Well except the Taurus my mom rolled at 5 mph. I thought FRAM was bought out by some Chinese company and that is when there filters went to poop. I can't find anything supporting that though.

After seeing one cut open, like others have said, it is worth the extra dollar for me to buy WIX.

As far as synthetic causing leaks... The oil isn't causing the leak, a bad seal is. Fix the seal, fix the leak.

Aww... dang it! You sucked me back into this thread lol!

Yeah, the Rotella Diesel. To be honest, the 5w40 I used didn't list it specifically for diesel. It says on the back something to the effect of "great for all hard working engins/automobiles/somethings..." But yep, Rotella T6 Full Syn 5w40 in the ol' girl right now. She still purrs.

And I COULD NOT agree more about factory parts. If I could, every replacement on my vehicles would be factory. But sometimes they either don't have them, or they're just too expensive. But, my Focus always gets a Motorcraft filter, and my XJ always got Mopar until walmart started FUBAR'ing the packaging, so now it gets Napa Gold. OEM FTW.

Now PLEASE! Let me begone!! Lol

i run the rotella 5w40 aswell. i use either napa gold or standard wix filters, with 5000 mile drain intervals. my jeep has 245k and at the 4000 mile mark i usually have to add 1/2 a quart to top it off.

but in all reality, the oil specs are so high that any api sm-sn oil is going to be fine. there is a big difference in filters though, so don't cheap out on it.

Just switched to Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w40 and the Jeep seems to love it. Eliminated the dry start tap I had and quieted the engine significantly. Also using a Motorcraft FL-1A filter, takes right at 6.5 quarts.

Read the link following this. The biggest problem with Fram, besides their overall poor quality is that they have exceptionally poor anti-drainback valves. The anti-drainback valves are super important for us guys with Jeeps that have the oil filters mounted upside down. Without a good quality and properly designed anti-drainback valve, our jeeps have "dry starts". That's not good. Do what you like but you have been informed.
Like my Mom always said: If your friend jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge, would you?".
