Default Ok guys, I'm at a loss, slight shake issue...

My 2000 xj 4.0, 4x4 with 166k miles has a shake at 55. Now, I have literaly replaced everything but the steering box and the ball joints. Tie rod, tie rod ends, track bar, drag link/tie rod end on the pitman arm, wheel bearings, everything. Now, I have gotten the tires balanced many times. Still the same issue, sometimes it gets worse sometimes slightly better. Heres the story

For a while, it was good, I had tires and rims from a friend sense my old ones were dented, and once I put them on my shake before was 99% obsolete. I went to chicago, coming home I went over a bumper that separates the highway from the turn on the highway, after that, I had a shake at 55mph. It doesn't make sense to me. I'm at a loss. Alignment should be good. I have yet to have a shop do it but a driveway alignment works well.

Anyone have any ideas?

What condition are the control arm bushings in? I don't see those on your list. Also is the hole where your Trac bar mounts wallowed out?

Track bar seems good, when I changed that it was good and its only been about a year I think. As for the control arm bushings, I didn't see any real play int hem when I had someone moving the steering wheel.

Its weird, i moved the tires from the back to the front, which were the ones that were on there originally when the shake started and now it didn't shake on my last test drive....

I'm so lost.

I drifted my cherokee into a curb last winter and bent both front rims 15 ounces off. After driving for a month or so, the imbalance caused tire wear and caused me death wobble due to the weird wearing. Check the rims and tire wear.

Also the frame side track bar mount and the sheet metal underneath could have lost its strength and now moves. Unlikely but it's food for thought

Track bar mount is good. No movement at all. As for the rims and tires, they have been replaced once because of bent rims, these are off a buddies jeep that I KNOW didn't have any shakes.

I've read other stories in here about people always getting death wobble no matter how many times/ways they've balanced the tires. Check the wear on the tires and see how bad it is. You could jack the truck up and put it in drive and watch the tire/rim for any noticeable shakes.

Steering stabilizer? Shocks?

Bushings will all wear out. My cousins 99 had SERIOUS death wobble from ANY bump in the road over 45mph. It was due to worn bushings. $120+/- later spent through Quadratech and it was fine.
