...point where the control arm attaches to the axle?
Only for a few moments until I can slip a jack stand under the axle.
Will the bolt holding the control arm snap like a dry twig? there is no rust what-so-ever.

I always use that point to jack up my XJ. If it can handle getting beatup by the road slamming up against it all day with a lift on it then it can hold up your XJ VIA a jack.

i always use the control are bracket on the pass side and the pumpkin then put the stand on the axle in the lca mount on the dirver side
