About 6 mos. ago, I installed a check valve on the fuel line between the fuel filter and the fuel rail because it was leaking down and taking a long time to start. Today, I removed it. I don't know if it was freezing up, but it is now out of the equation. Tomorrow I have to go to town, so I guess I'll see what happens then. And don't touch that dial.lol

ANOTHER TOW BILL!!! Had to go into town, stopped to get gas, left it Idling, pumped the gas and got in. As soon as my behind hit the set she sputtered, I hit the gas, she died. Got towed 30 mi. home. I will try a direct 12v at the plug ( orange wire), but I suspect the pump will run. IDK, unless there is something else I could do at this point, I will start soaking the tank bolts and pray for the best.

BTW, the pump was drawing around 8 amps, but no fuel pressure.

Anyway:
1) you know when it won't start you have no fuel pressure

2) hopefully you know each time it won't start you have spark.
3 "jumping" it doesn't always solve the problem, but I don't know where/how you're jumping it.
4) you don't want to parts cannon the fuel pump.. I understand.
5) the dog says"don't worry, I can always eat you

At this point I would be tempted to make a jumper cable with the terminal end being the harness side connector that plugs into the fuel pump. When it refuses to start hook up your pressure gauge...still zero. Hook up this new jumper to the fuel pump and the battery. If still no pressure it's the pump, if pressure, back to relay, grounds etc etc. The dog recommended diagnostic.
I did as Exasemech suggested and gave the orange wire 12v with the black being ground at the plug. Not a sound, fuel pump's shot I'm sure. Now I have a new question, do I need to start a new thread?

Keep in mind that it was your dog's diagnostic suggestion. If it turns out he was correct he expects some good food in return, none of that farm store kibble stuff.🐕

Heck, my 230 pounds of three dogs eat better than I do. LOL

Here's two of the three.

OK, here goes. How do I drain this tank without a fuel pump?? It's got at least 15 gal. in it. I thought about using my transmission jack but I'm really skeptical about it. Is it possible to get a flow from either of the pump lines?

Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter inlet.
Power up the pump with no real resistance to flow, right? could you get it to run for a while? Smack the bottom of the tank?

That's the way I have drained it previously, but with a fuel pump. I haven't been able to get it going this time, but I have hammers in all sizes. We'll know tomorrow.

I hit the tank with the 2x4 about 10 times, nothing doing. I couldn't get a real good swing as it's only on jack stands, but it got smacked hard enough to free it if that was the problem. A friend of mine (whose not a mechanic) suggested I punch a hole in it.lol. I surely hope it doesn't come to that. In looking at the FSM and comparing it to the job ahead, The fuel pump I have doesn't have a float.

Or a flange. I suppose those parts are taken off the old one I hope. Any more suggestions on getting the fuel out of this tank??? BTW Google says 15 gal of gas weighs 90 lbs.
On a positive note, the tank bots aren't rusted, just dirty.

Today I had success! I took the vent hose loose from the fuel inlet tube and threaded about 5 ft of 3/8" plastic tubing through it and into the tank. Then hooked up my cheap Chinese 12v pump anything pump and managed to get about 12 gal out of the tank before I ran out of gas cans. I'm going to try to get the rest out tomorrow.

Question for today: How far can I drop the tank with the filler hose still hooked up? I may just try to remove the fuel pump and keep the tank, there's nothing wrong with it. If I can lower the tank enough to access the fuel pump, I'll probably go that route.

Because I can't get to the fuel pump 'cause of the rear end and the tank lip is keeping me from being able to get to the pump retainer, there being year's worth of grime & oil back there. I can reach it but not well enough to work with it.
