Question One More Power Window Problem

New to the forum, have searched it, YouTube, and other sources, but still not sure where to start , so I would appreciate any suggestions.

Power window problem as follows in 1997 Cherokee Sport:
(1) driver-side window works fine
(2) rear passenger-side window works fine from both the master switch and its own switch
(3) neither the front passenger-side window nor the rear driver-side window works at all, from either the master switch or from their own switches

Don't hear motors running on windows that don't work, so I suspect wiring problems. But most likely from the power side? Or the ground? Or maybe some of both?

Haven't been able to find photos or drawings of the actual routing of the wires, so am also curious about physical routing of the wiring from the master switch to the two problem windows.

And if wiring turns out not to be the problem, what should I suspect next?

Somebody out there has already encountered and worked on (solved?) this very problem, I hope -- so any input will be much appreciated.

I've had issues with my power windows on my 98. Both times it stemmed from a failure of the drivers door switch panel. The last failure of an aftermarket switch caused all 4 windows to not operate, even at the individual door switches. I picked up a used panel and now they operate from all switches. A common failure is with the window lock out switch. It goes into lock mode and disables the individual door switches. There are write ups on here about putting a jumper wire on the main panel wired to bypass the switch.

Smile Sounds like a good place to start

Based on your experience, I guess I need to start at the master switch on the driver's door and make sure I have current going through the master switch to each of the individual switches. Should be easy to check, since two are working and two are not. Once I know I'm getting current out of the master on the way to all four windows, then I'll know if I have to start tracking the possible interruption, short, or missing ground.

Hope you track it down RJ45. I posted almost the exact same scenario on '98 Sport about a month ago and got response. My situation is that the DS control panel works ALL windows except the DS rear. All 3 individual door switches work as well. The DS rear cut out 6 weeks ago, then it started to work, then cut out again. My research yielded either a broken wire or as Orlo said, the master control panels faulty child lockout. I took off the boot of the front DS door, cut away the sheathing and looked for any obvious broken wires. None found, so I did what many have done and jumped the wires in the 1st white plastic junction closest to the DS door in the DS kick panel. Working so far!

I may well end up jumping the wires, but I hate to do that until I establish that I'm actually getting power to the two windows that don't work...and/or that those connections are properly grounded. My situation is a little different, in that the two windows that don't work, don't work at all -- from either switch.

Will let you know how it goes, but it may be early next week before I can get back to that project (got to get the garden planted!).

Meanwhile, any more thoughts/suggestions are welcome.

You can take the driver side switch apart and freshen up all the solder points. I had intermittent issues with the passenger front and rear window, after coming across a video on YouTube I attempted the task my self. All windows and window lock switch have been working well ever since. Just my $.02

Will most likely end up doing the same, just need it working so my window tint guy can get them done on Tuesday!
