Why not the spartan?

I installed a Powertrax Lock Right in my D35 and i dont have the "cogging" wheel feeling like my uncle has in turns with his D35 after installing the Spartan Locker. Just my own personal experience.

I'm confused here.

I thought "lunchbox" lockers could be installed without dealing with gear mesh.

And, I thought both Spartan and Lock-Rite were "lunchbox" lockers.

At least the one I put in my FJ40 was.

I think he is saying to just avoid the spartan brand since they're both lunchbox lockers. I would do the opposite of that, but that's just me.

You both are absolutely right. They are both lunchbox lockers. I am just stating my personal opinion from dealing with both of them. Either one will be a huge upgrade over the open diff the OP has now.

Having sold lock right, I will never sell another one. Their manufacturing has moved overseas where they now use lesser materials. It's also not uncommon to have one machined incorrectly.
Spartan is the way to go as far as lunch box lockers.

My d35 took a crap last year so I bought a 8.25 with a lock rite locker in it that was absolutely destroyed. The craftsman ship looked similar to the Aussie we installed in my buddies. I bought a spartan because I had a 27 spline and Aussie didn't make one for it. Very happy I bought a spartan. Installation was a lot simpler and faster then the Aussie. I've driven about 7k miles on it with no issues on pavement or getting stuck offroad
