original starter from 1990?

Default original starter from 1990?
my starter went out today after wheeling and noticed that there was a hole in the opposite end of the gear(hole was opposite of the solenoid as well).
anybody else ever seen that on their XJ? my replacement starter didnt have the hole.

on the bottom prob to let any water drain out that light get in when trailing
freegdr is offline
