over fuel problem
I have an 88 Cherokee chief. 4.0 inline with 5 speed. I just got it a few days ago and the guy had it sitting for a long time. I got it running good but the oil smells like it has gas in it and when I stomp on it not right in the beginning of the gear it bogs down. Also you can smell the gas bad when its running. Idk if a sensor is out or what. Need to fix it soon. Just got plugs and don't need the fowled. Please post!

First off check for fuel leaks at the fuel pressure regulator on the front of the intake and the fuel line at the rear.
Any leakage around the injectors? You sure don't want your new Jeep to go up in flames.
Check all the vacuum lines/piping in the engine bay. The one from the passenger side of the throttle body going to the MAP sensor on the firewall will cause an extremely rich condition if it is carcked, melted or plugged.

If it has the stock injectors and there's a wet spot on the outside of one, it needs injectors. www.precisionautoinjectors.com.
Still, check the hose/pipe from the MAP to the throttle body.

First of all, injector o-rings seal the injector to the rail and intake manifold. They pretty much seal air, not fuel. If you're getting a mist, it's probably from the crimp in the crappy Siemens-Deka injectors your Jeep came with. Your choice though. Spend $100 and get rebuilt, flow matched, upgraded injectors with new o-rings or burn your Jeep to the ground.

Sunshine there has a point. My stock injectors on my 90 were crap. As I though I'd get away with O rings, handling them they got worse. Wasted time before I got a new set. THAT was 10 years ago. The replacements are still fine but even cheap *** me is thinking of up-grading to the 4 hole injectors. The increase in MPG should pay for them.

www.precisionautoinjectors.com has the 4 disc type for under a $100. Beats the hell out of a Car-B-Que.
