Let it idle with the radiator cap off, just trickle a little 50/50 mix in as the radiator needs it, when the thermostat opens you should see water flow and the level may drop, just add a little more of the mix. This is burping the radiator, if you leave the cap on then there is nowhere for the air to go. You should always burp it whenever you change fluid or open the cooling system. Once you are satisified that you have the air out replace the cap and insure the overflow jug is full to the hot line, after the engine cools you should notice that the level dropped in the overflow reseviour.
I doubt it is your water pump if you have had no previous symptoms, probably just air but make sure you monitor the temp throughout the process.
Could also be a flaky tempurature sending unit.
Remember, just trickle water in, never fill an empty radiator on a hot vehicle, running or not, if the water can't mix in the radiator the cold water can crack a block or head.

are your fans kicking on is the next question?
a way to check the condition of your clutch fan is to while running have someone shut off the engine and it should take 2 turns max for the fan to stop. if it spins pretty freely then the clutch is gone on the fan.
also turn on your ac and see if the fan kicks on.
it may be the water pump, but just trying to save ya money so you only have to buy one part =] also a new temp sending unit may be the problem

Just had that problem
You need to bleed "burp" the system. Can be a pain. Here is what I did:
Pull the upper hose off of the radiator and pour 50/50 mixturre in until full (leave the lid off of the tank)
Put the hose back on
Pull the temp sending unit out (back of the engine right on the head)
Run engine until antifeeeze comes out.
Refill talk as necessary.
