How much does it normally cost to have a shop do it? I feel comfortable with my abilities its just im kind of on a time crunch being it is my only vehicle at the moment. And would any of you guys have a link to a good write up on replacing a head gasket? And no i didn't clean my throttle body i should probably knock that out this weekend.

The next $15-20 you spend should be on a Haynes manual.

Read up on it and then decide if you want to tackle it yourself or pay someone to do it.

Stop doing anything else to the Jeep until you do this.

[QUOTE=rvcasti;2764062]so I was driving home today and I have been checking the gauges pretty regularly because my cooling system has been acting up in my truck has been overheating. When I started to slow down I notice my truck was knocking and was holding a high idle. About 2500 rpm. When I tried to slow down I noticed it was really hard to press the brake to get the truck to stop then I started smelling a bit coolant /burning smell.I was right around the corner from my house so I made it into my driveway and shut off my truck. When I did that lots of smoke/ steam came out.I checked my oil and there was no coolant in it."

Had the same thing happen to me today. I usually have a short 7 mile commute and notice the engine is hot. Went to a friend's house today and noticed when I slowed down I had a high idle and had to put it in neutral to actually slow down, like I was fighting against the motor. Loud knocking and it finally turned off while coming to a 4 way stop, was able to coast to pull over spot. Light steam came from the motor. Gave it about 20 minutes and it took me the rest of the way home. Unsure where to start. I have 225k miles on her and a fresh set of tires and spark plugs. Coolant was flushed 10 months ago. May explore the water pump swap and see if that gets me another 50k miles
Wonder what happened to OP!
