Default Overhead console for 96 or new Jeeps question or project maybe!

Ok I have been looking around for a while surfing the net for answers....And I had a thought!

ALL 96 and new cars have an OBDII port that is used to for info. I have a Scangauge II in my G35 that is plugged into my OBDII port...and it gives me alot of info on my car....right from the engine computer!

Wondering if I did an EVIC from a Jeep Grand Cherokee...would it work? IT only has 4 or 5 wires...and all but one go to the OBDII.

Here is a website with info...just wondering?????

www.wjjeeps.com/evic.htm

This could be one of the easiest ways to get this done.....what do you think....not to mention they are dirt cheap to get!

Let me know.....

do you just want to mount this or put it in ot the stock over head console

if you mont it you may have to find/make yoru own mounting points.

or if u try to put it in to the stock over head console it problay wont fit , but maybe worth trying

I don't have an over head console in my jeep...and want to mount this one in my jeep...I see it requires a plastic mounting plate...but I plan to check out the JY and see if there are any there...and see how it works....but from what I have research it is basically connected to the OBDII port...for it's info.

Yeah...that's the plan...so the Headliner chop is last on the list. I figured that I need to go with a 2000 -2002 base EVIC and I looked at the gas tank size of a Grand Cherokee....its a 20.5gal and I have a 20gal.....so should be good to go.

While I am at the JY I am going to cut open a junker XJ headliner to see what it looks like up there...and figure out how to attach the plastic bracket. The bracket new is only $28.

The Computer (EVIC) that I got off Ebay should be here tomorrow....then do a test and hook it up and see if it will work.

I will post my test results and do a write up for those with the OBDII compliant Jeeps.

If you don't mind me asking, how much that computer set you back? Any links to the ebay auction?

$35 with shipping...I am going to have to paint it to make it match. I also pick up a base and temp sensor from the juny yard for $4.....AGAIN this is a test project...but I believe it will work....since the OBDII gives this info anyways from the Engine computer. The main thing will be how to mount it to the ceiling of the jeep.

I am not sure if you can plug in this item number and see what I got.

How do you plan on making it read temperature? WJ's are set up so the ambient temp sensor goes through the BCM (body control module) the BCM then sends the signal to the over head on the PCI bus, this displays the temp on the overhead screen. 96 XJ's don't have a BCM.
