I am a little confused cause I saw your other thread.
So your Jeep did not come with one and you installed it.
And all was fine.
Then you took everything apart to redo your headliner and not the back looks out of position?
If that is the case I am wondering if you have the overhead properly slid in the bracket.
Or if you redid your headliner is it possible the fabric you used is not quite as thick as what was there and
that might account for the gap.

looks fine in your pic from other post. Is it just not tight just little snug as I see no gap.

I noticed that too.
Why I asked if he redid the headliner after that shot.

OT: My first ride in an XJ was with a gal I went out with once in the DC area. It had an OHC and i thought the whole thing was the coolest. A couple years later I bought my 1996 XJ new, but it didn't have OHC. Over the years I looked at adding one from offers I saw on ebay and such, but never pulled the trigger. Maybe one day I can get back to that idea.

So went and tinkered with the over head console again..wasnt able to get it to sit completely flush with the roof on the passenger side for some reason..and the tab on the ohc is slid all the way back.i dont understand what I'm doing wrong..I didnt think it was rocket science putting an ohc back up..but apparently it is 🤣🤣should I have to push up anywhere on it to get it to lock into anything..cant remember if I mentioned it or not but it's a 98 jeep cherokee classic

Can we see a picture?
You make is sound like you took it completely off and put it back on.
Did you notice if the bracket was still riveted in the ceiling properly?
I am still leaning towards that you do not have it slid in the bracket properly.

I just thought of something.
When you redid your headliner are you sure that you opened up all the holes
when you put on the new fabric?
Is there any chance that the fabric is a little thick around the openings not
letting the parts of the overhead that tuck up in the holes get all the way up there?

I could possibly take some pictures this afternoon.and the fabric is thicker than what came oem,so that could be a possibility
