Default Overhead console retrofit?

I am trying to put a 1990 (I think) console in an "89 XJ and the 89 just has little dome lights. The newer console is equiped with all the fancy computerized stuff. All I want is to be able to use the overhead lights but the new console's wiring harness has about 12 wires coming out of it. Does anyone know which wires are ground, and which ones I need to hook up to make my lights work?

I'd like to know the answer too, just installed mine, but can only get the lights to come on with doors opening and the dome light switch on the headlights. I couldn't figure out what wire controls the lights' individual switch on the console itself. From what I can tell, you use the two pink wires and the black one.

I found this website that show's wiring diagrams for the overhead console, but you have to be an electrical engineer to understand the freak'n thing. I'm just a simple jeep lover that is handy, but not this smart. Doesn't anyone have a "hook the black and white wire to ..... sort of thing?

you should just have to run direct power to the map lights because the have there own switch and black or grn are usually ground

That looks great, but how did you wire it? Make it simple so a guy with a pea brain can follow your instructions! Thanks

2) B/LG-Ground, (4) BK-Ground, (5) PK-Positive, (6) PK-Positive, (7)WT/BK-Ignition Switch Output, (8) YL-Courtesy Lamp Output, (9) BK/LB Ambient Air Temp Signal, (10) VT/LG- Sensor Ground, (12) DB/RD-Park Lamp Switch Output, (13) OR/BK-Panel Lamps Driver

for the computer do the 2 ground's "2,4" then put the two "5,6" PK "pink" and then "7" WT/BK and that will power the computer for the older style with the compass and temp, to get the temp to work "9,10" go to the sensor if you got it...then for the lights i did it differently, i cut the harness and wired it to the dome light to make it a bit easier
