Where do you think the coolant is going?

Also, lack of an e-fan is not going to cause the engine to rapidly shoot to the top of the scale.

Depends on how much he is losing.
If it's a little, it can be very hard to track a teardrop of coolant. Especially if it doesn't leak out onto the floor when the jeep is parked. I had one of them one time. It would leak down the radiator, to the front crossmember, then down off the point of my tow hook. It would never leave a drop on the floor when the jeep was parked.
Also, are we sure he is actually losing coolant? Especially in a closed system there will be a huge fluctuation of fluid in that pressure bottle between cold vs. hot.
Just thinking of some other things before he tears into it

One of my Jeeps is an '87 Renix 4.0 that still has the closed system intact. There is not a huge fluctuation of coolant level at all. In fact, it's more consistent than an open system.

She said she does lose coolant.

Once again, a little drip somewhere on the frame rail is not going to cause what she describes her problem as.

My 88 fluctuates an inch or two between hot and cold..lol
And I diddnt know how much she was losing exactly I was just throwing that out there before you tear into the head

Unless her radiator is 95% clogged, or neither her old and/or new water pump is not moving coolant, I just don't see any other reasonable explanation that fits the facts as we know them.

"The facts as we know them" is probably the key here.

How much coolant is the OP losing over what period of time?

I stated that I doubted that the e-fan was the primary problem but asked the question to try to get a feel for the overall system status and history and OPs knowledge of same.

It is possible to lose a little coolant externally every time you drive a vehicle and see no evidence until the level is down substantially.

In any event my own approach FWIW is to try to push and prod OPs to part with info that is necessary for a reasonable analysis of their problem. Not saying that it is the most effective way or that those who have recommended immediately pulling the head or selling the Jeep are wrong.

In any case, it looks like she needs to take her Jeep to a trustworthy mechanic for further diagnosis before any more parts are replaced.
