Again, what brand is the 'stat? Also, do you know for sure it's not air locked?

Well I tested the thermostat today on the stove and it worked fine. I purchased a water pump. When I took the old one off I realized that must be the final problem. No fins left...looks like a house fan. My only problem now is loosening the threads of the hose that goes into the water pump. Does it have reverse threads or anything? I put liquid wrench on to soak overnight.
Thanks everyone for the input.

I don't know what brand but it's off the shelf at Oreillys. I didn't have the energy to go the dealership today but I at least tested it.

Are you talking about the pipe that connects off the heater hose? Regular threads, if you can't get it I think its a cheap item to replace. Good Luck!!

What does "air locked" mean in relation to a thermostat?

It just means that there is air behind the stat. This usually won't allow the stat to open (can't sense the temp of the coolant, since it is in contact with air and not coolant).

To the OP: glad you found the cause. Let us know how things work when the new pump is in place. The tube can be purchased from aftermarket sources, or you can use a brass nipple and a little bit longer heater hose.

Thanks for the help everyone. Got the new water pump in today... used the black stuff for both my water pump gasket and thermo gasket along with a torque wrench and it's completely leak free and holding at a steady 110.
Now if only my transmission will hold out.....

One trick is to drill a very small hole in the outer flange, and position the hole "up" when you install it. This allows any air to pass through the hole and into the radiator where it can escape.

Default Replaced thermostat radiator and waterpump still overheated

After replacing all the above a new $10 radiator cap solved the problem
