Default Overheating despite everything

I'm just gonna come out with it....
HELP!

My '04 Laredo is overheating at idle. I have replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, heat sensor, and fan.

The fuse and relay is working.

With all that replaced why is it still overheating?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Did you do a flush? Sometimes a fan clutch (assuming 04 uses a mechanical fan) can be bad out of the box. Do you have the fan shroud in place? Did you burp the system of air?

You may get more specific help at the Grand Cherokee forum.

Default Did you resolve your coolant issue(s)?

Have a 2000 4.7 gc. Going through same issues after I brought it to dealer to replace evap, and heater core while it was opened up. Got it back, a/c still doesn’t cool. BUT now she gets hot 220-245 at times with no leaks and isn’t consistent whether it’s hot out or not, stop n go or highway driving. Also the a/c electric cooling fan stopped working. Dealership of course chalking it up to age of vehicle. Radiator cap was cool a few times I checked as was radiator just below it with very hot engine. Thought that to be really odd. Then today same eng temp and cap was warm/hot. Baffled. Didn’t appear to have clogged radiator or bad pump when I flushed it a few different ways. Changed out 195 t-stat, and ran flush for two days. Never got past 225. Was told by dealership that their laser light showed different temps in radiator and said it was clogged. Course no paperwork or proof. was planning to throw parts at it, cause once I rip the front apart and fan shroud etc, I’m changing everything out while it’s apart. Last night I got to thinking bout the radiator cap, and researched it and gonna swap it out. If hope the radiator cap resolves it. I’d like to know what the issue is. But I’m not about to change w-pump, button it up and test, only to have to tear everything back down to change next part. Ughh.

Peter, you have a Grand Cherokee, which is not a Cherokee. You'll do better posting in the Grand Cherokee forum, which I linked just before your post.

Default My bad. BUT

Original post has same cooling issues I’m having. Cooling parts are roughly the same in principle. We all here to help each other right? Is there a fine I can pay? Or can we let it slide? Smh

an IR gun is so cheap..like $20 up, and so useful, (the ones with direct thermocouple probe are best)

use mine often, not just for auto work

I take extra measures to bleed my XJ, as that caused a problem like yours,
make sure yr heater is open

Principles are the same, but the devil is often in the details, and those are not the same.

We'll forego the customary flogging at dawn, in your case.

Really, I was just suggesting that you'll be better off getting answers from people who know the details of your vehicle.

x2 on what Mark said.

We're not trying to get rid of you when we suggest the vehicle specific forum, it's to help you get the best help you can get. Certainly we're happy to throw out suggestions or recommendations to the best of our abilities.

From my brief look into the world of the 4.7 engine, overheating seems a really big deal and folks commonly have problems with damaging valves. In our world this is unheard of (I've never seen a single mention).. we get 0331 head cracking or paranoia as the common result of overheating with the less common, but possible, block damage.
I've always said "I can't be the first person to have this problem" and it's sort of that principle that makes these forums invaluable (that and the fantastic and wise folks like Cruiser and BlueRidgeMark, etc. etc.)

I hear ya. Should’ve left my info out of it. Again I’m not the original poster. Wanted to know if he resolved his issues, and suggested if he tried replacing radiator cap. I’m Having exact same issues. Didn’t suggest or ask any WJ questions here, now did I, nor specific psi radiator cap for his vehicle? Y’all saw 4.7 and prolly sprung into action to police me? Lol. Cooling system principles are pretty much the same for most vehicles unless their air cooled. Trying to help, and will do it again regardless of what vehicle I may drive. I have my post already in the WJ forum for my vehicles
issues. Y’all need to chill out

I think you need to chill out. We thought you were a WJ owner looking for help, and directed you to the best place to get it.
