could it also be a faulty can clutch? how can i tell if its working or not?

 

Cherokee clutch fans run off the belt. To check is simple, all you do is leave the car off, pop the hood, then by hand turn the fan by the fan blades. There should be some resistance when it turns. And if you try and turn it really fast it should come to a STOP pretty quick. If it free spins the clutch is bad.

 

Soory its been so long since my last post. there was ZERO internet where i was headed to. But I replaced the thermostat with a new 195 thermostat and a new radiator cap for good measure, and success! no more overheating issues. for almost 900 miles temp gauge never went above 210. most time around 200. Thanks to all that help me figure this one out!

 

Pull the thermostat and run the system wide open in a pinch. So it runs a little cold, no big deal when it gets you home. Attached a photo of current weather, no worry about overheat here. Glad to hear your new thermo got ya fixed. Merry Christmas
