OXYGEN SENSORS
Hi all, im a newbie Cherokee owner in SA. I have a 1996 (I think) 4.0l High Output (whatever that means). I am trying to find support but alas only the agents in this country.
My jeep has no catalytic converter (I know...I know..but thats how I bought it...not a requirement in this country) and I cant seem to find the oxygen sensor. The reason im looking for it is because this jeep runs rich constantly, and if I drive politely (mind you...if I drive like a maniac it makes no difference either) I get 6km per liter petrol.
Can any of you guys help?

A 96 XJ with a high output 4.0 litre Has two (2), the upsrteam is located in the front of the exhaust near the exhaust manifold. The down stream is located between the cat converter and muffler. Hopefully the connectors are stll there, they will be black or grey and a round shape. The upstream runs off of the engine harness and down behind the P/S pump,or clipped to the back of the intake manifold(i've seen them both ways) The down stream is clipped to the top of the T-case.

Also check the operating temp. If it is running cool, it will run rich. It needs a 195 degree thermostat.

WOW! Thanks guys! I wasnt so sure if I would get any replies...nice to know guys out there are prepared to help Very limited knowledge her in SA (well.....besides the agents). I will definitely try find this sucker on my jeep today. I have soooo many questions, I hope I dont bore you guys. I bought this jeep not because she is a jeep but rather she fitted in with my limited budget (R47 000) divide by 9 I think and youll get the dollar equivalent. But since then I have really fallen in love with her (as kinky as that sounds, im sure you know what im talking about) she has 265000km on the clock, so yes, she needs a bit of work. I will try post pics soon. Is there any way of knowing if she is running rich or lean without a gas analiser?
