2001 XJ leak pooks like it comes from directly behind the pulley. I change hoses but I don't mess with P/S pumps. There is a local shop specializing in P/S repairs and I plan on dropping by there Monday. I cleaned the stain on the inside of the hood above the pump, then I cleaned around the hoses, then I put cardboard to surround the pump. At idle, no real stain. Then I turned the wheel lock to lock and found a stain on the cardboard, while the hose connections (according to me) are still dry. Never had a pump leak in this manner before.
replace the pump, easy job. inspect pump fluid for metal bits in it, if metal found, consider the gear box might be damaged.
likely the shaft seal failed Do not let her run dry when driving. lack of oil will hand grenade the pump and gear box. Leak might very suddenly become much worse with no warning, which means no oil, which means destruction!
Replaced the power steering pump, now I hear a ticking noise coming from somewhere. I heard it in the afternoon, the following morning, but since then it seems to have stopped.

Reason: Add updated info.
Check the pump before replacing the belt. Make sure it hasnt seized and the pulley is straight with the rest of them. Better yet check all of them, just to be sure.
