P1391 and P0340 Help
Hello,
I've posted about this and read the threads on this issue before and I am still running into problems with these codes. I've had intermittent issues with these codes for about a year now and here is what I've done:
P1391 - intermittent loss of cam or crank sensors
P0340 - cam sensor malfunction
- Replaced crank position sensor with an OEM one (only symptom was random RPM drops and P1391)
- Replaced spark plugs, distributor wiring, cap, and rotor
- Inspected timing chain (good) and replaced crank position sensor wiring (car died while driving, fixed all issues for a good 5 months)
- Started getting P1391 again and now P0340 (cam sensor) with no symptoms except random RPM drops, replaced cam sensor with one from autozone
- Continued to get P1391 and P0340 with no symptoms, replaced entire distributor including cap, rotor, and cam sensor (fixed for about a month)
TODAY
- Had a permanent P1391 and P0340 with frequent drops in RPM
- Replaced the cam sensor with an OEM one and it did not fix the issue
- Did adaptive memory reset - car would now only crank and would not start
- Disconnected and reconnected negative terminal, cam sensor harness, and crank sensor harness - car started right up and no longer drops RPMs
- Drove it for about 10 minutes before P1391 and P0340 came back on with no symptoms
- Cleared the codes with a scanner and only P0340 came back on about 5 minutes later with no symptoms.
Everything related that is new within the past year: OEM crank sensor, crank sensor wiring, OEM cam sensor, distributor, cap, rotor, wiring, spark plugs
Any ideas or thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated. I can't think of anything else it could be besides a failing PCM or other small electrical issue that I won't be able to find. I've been able to drive it this whole time with the only issue being random RPM drops that usually only happen when reversing or idling cold. Thank you.
