This code came up for the solinods in the trans, where are they and how do I check them. Thank you. It is a 98XJ with the AW4 trans

 

the soleniods are in the valve body inside the trans alot of times when this code comes up its for low trans fluid, so check that first

You really need to buy yourself's a haynes or chilton or a fsm guy's, the book's will really help out your lack of knowlegde.And before you get your feelings hurt ,I'm not even thinking that way, most of us have one or the other. Infact the haynes has the process and picture's on how to do it. A book will show it better than trying to explain it to you.

 

Of course the manuals offer you a great help but the forums and discussion groups shortens the way by spreading the experience to others.

 

So much ends up being wiring and connections. You might go through and check and clean every plug and wire that looks related. Also that braided ground from the head to the firewall. Some add a second engine to chasey ground. Dipstick tube mount bolt to a stud below the shock mount is good. I just went from the AC compressor to the radiator bracket. With everything all computerized and electric really good grounds are crucial. Good luck!

 

might as well shred that haynes book they are about useless.

 

does the check engine light come on after the tranny is up to temp? if so you might have a bad solenoid. i had the same problem and i ended having to change them with ones i got from the junk yard. how to swap out--- drain the tranny fluid then take the bolt out of the dipstick tube located on uper bell houseing. pull the upper half of dip stick tube out. if they wont come apart. get the jeep up as high as you can and just rotate the pan out of the way. now take the filter off and you will see all three of them there easy to replace. also should replace the filter while you have it apart. that should help you get it fixed. the solenoids have a problem with malfunctioning after they warm up. 97 to 01 are the worse ones. make sure you look at the solenoids in yours before you go to the junk yard or you might get the wrong ones.
