Paid to change my calipers
Replaced my front calipers today. Advance Auto has a zinc coated, plastic piston replacement that works good and looks great. It also has a $35 core charge for $33 part! They paid me $2 to upgrade and change my calipers today...SMH pays to shop around

Plastic piston....... that's why its $33.
I'll stick with all metal parts when it comes to my brake system. I'm enjoying my life right now so I dont exactly want a caliper failing and I end up in a guard rail or the back of another vehicle.
I'm replacing all my front parts with a kit from Powerstop, the slotted and drilled ones ( havent heard anything bad about them) since I'll be lifted and bigger tires in a couple weeks, plus its time for a brake change.

That "plastic" is phenolic, which i think is a composite resin. Its supposed to transfer less heat to the brake fluid compared to a steel piston. Which is better (steel vs. phenolic) depends who you ask, but i never had an issue using phenolic.

Your are correct, I couldn't remember the word, phenolic. Which everything I read said to absolutely go that way over steel because after 4 wheeling and mudding they will cause a lot less problems in the long run. And as far checking me receipt, it's a fact, check on Advanced Auto website. I know because I had the left front lock up first and had to replace it. Then 6 days later, the right front seized. I actually didn't have the cash to fix it at that time so I actually pulled the caliper off and took it to the parts store. $35 core charge on $32.99 part, the clerk told me he didn't care what order it went as long they got the core part

I wish I had a idiot running core charges on parts where I lived. Find a bad optima and turn in for a replacement. I’d get his work schedule so when you know when to show up and buy parts. Does he take empty cans of brake cleaner on return?
