Paint Colors by Model Year
Does anybody know how interchangeable body parts are based on color? I have a dark green '01 that could use a better hood, and I found one from a '94 that is also dark green. I haven't seen it in person yet so I have no idea if the paint color was the same for both years. Thanks in advance.

The 7 year's difference in weathering alone will keep them from matching.
You can check at a paint store for codes/color names. Be aware the same name can have different mix codes/formulas and look different.

Finding the paint code isn't the issue. It won't help in this case since the hood isn't coming from a partout, but just someone's spare parts collection. So I won't be able to get a paint code from the seller. Does anybody know if there's a list somewhere of the paint codes for each year?

As far as I know, the hoods never really changed.
Steve - Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Guess this won't work since Jeep didn't offer my paint in 1994.

I did some research on that beforehand, and while they are different part numbers, the general consensus is that the dimensions and hinge location didn't change. So the structure might be different, but the two are exactly the same in practicality.

Look at the sculpted lines lines on the hood, grill header, and fenders. Bet they don't match.
I guess if you wish hard enough you could make it fit.

Thanks for the dimensions, so that settles that.
I wish touch up paint would fix this. The problem is that most of the damage is down to the bare metal and was already a little rusted when I bought the XJ over a year ago. The hood is by far the worst part of the car. I'll post some pictures if anybody wants a good laugh.
