Painting my Jeep OD Green!
I'm going to be painting my XJ OD green this weekend and I was wondering how many cans of paint I'd need to cover the Jeep in one coat? I was told that I'd need five. I'm going to be using the Krylon Fusion Camouflage OD Ultra Flat....

How many cans of paint do you think I'll need to cover the Jeep in ONE coat? It's an '89 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4 Door. Have any of you painted your Jeep OD green? If so, lets see pictures of it! Thanks!

id say 7-9 cans. but it depends on your current color of the jeep. and make sure you sand it down a little bit so the paint has something better to stick to!

I think it'll be fine. I helped a fellow Marine paint his '78 CJ7 OD green last weekend and it was a very bright blue color and we only put one coat on it and it looks great! I can post pictures of it if y'all would like me to.

After using rattle can primer and very unhappy with spray pattern and coverage I painted my 89 with Dupont Imaron, it is a catalized industrial coating (paint). I couldn't be more pleased with the results, less than $100 for the paint and hardener I have a nice medium green flat paint that is harder than anything but powdercoat.

Here ya go. Very durable finish, very cheap, no overspray and the closest to official OD you can make...
Behold.
Take one free 1984 XJ with the 4 banger. A bit of body rot. Grind out the rot and weld in new metal...
1 can of Rustoleum Stops Rust red primer and 1 can of Stops-Rust Dark Hunter Green GLOSS. Mix together in another can.
Get the small dense foam 4 inch rollers and thin the paint mixture until it's like milk with regular (not low-odor) Mineral Spirits.
Tape off anything you dont' want green.
Roll on the paint in several thin coats. Will take 10 minutes or so between coats. Do sections at a time. Feel free to wet sand every 4 coats or so with 800 grit to remove any bumps..
Enjoy your OD jeep that only ran about 30 bux to paint with lots of leftover paint..
Adding numbers is optional..
During painting...
Doorless.. Great fun last summer!
Whee!!!
