The rectangular piece that holds both lines seems to be worn because this is the second time in 2 months that the lines have come loose. Should I just replace that piece or is there a more substantial fix that replaces the weak design?

Do the cables come out of it? It's called the brake equalizer. Have you tightened it up any?

Either that piece is worn (if so, I'm sure you can find one at the junkyard) or the tabs on the actual parking brake cables are worn. Replacement cables are around $20-30 up here in Canada. Either way, it's a pretty quick fix.

There's only one as far as I know...I have one from the pre-97 models and one from 97+ and they both only have one nylock nut.

I'll have to check tomorrow, but I think it is only one. And yes I did tighten it down last time and it still came back out. I think the equalizer is probably the problem.

If nut keeps backing off stick another nut in behind it adjust first one up and run second nut down to first nut and with two wrenchs lock them together.
