did 1990 cherokees have vacuum disconnect front axles? that would be something to check out.

I pulled the cover tonight, other then real bad fluid the only thing missing is a pin in one of the gears

A pin in one of the gears? Like the crosspin that goes through the spider gears? That could be your problem, but seems unlikely. Can you be more specific, or take a picture and post it. If that is not it I am thinking it could be a broken shift fork. If the vacum disconnect is not engaged then all the power will go to the disconnected shaft and your front tires will not get any power. If the gears look good and you can turn the yoke and see the carrier spinning but the tires are not moving then it is most likely that the vacum disconnect is broken.

As far as a broken shift fork, how possible could that be without KNOWING thats what it is? As in, would it maybe make you look to other things first? Learning a little here myself.


Please, if its not to much trouble for you can you get a pic? You did say when you shifted it was really easy right?
