ill just throw this into the mix , i had a rust hole in the window seat that
leaked water inside. i couldn't see it till i took off the window trim.
so i had to take out the window and repair the holes.

i have the exact same problem in my 95 cherokee limited 4.0. carpet can get really wet and it seems to be when heavy rain in the drivers side ( its a UK car so its right hand drive). from a lot of searching on the forums ive come to the conclusion it can either be my air con drain or my windshield seal, how i can differentiate between the two? without diving in and cutting holes etc.. i really want to get this sorted because their is now rust developing where the floor light is under the drivers side and i cant afford to have it done at a dealership ( im a student ) shes my baby and i need her 100%
the water appears to be coming down on the bottom right hand side bit of plastic.
will get photos on soon.
btw allthough im a student im pretty handy and what i cant do my dad definitely can

any help would very much appreciated as im in a bit of a pickle...

rip up your carpet, rhino line the floor, pop out your plugs to drain every once in a while. thats my routine hahaha that source of water is damn elusive

I have same problem right now. the water is running through the hood on passenger side closer to the windshield down behind the wheel well to where the blower fan is mounted on your fire wall and that area gets backed up with water and goes through the crack you should put new seal around the the blower fan. all have to do is move yr a/c euongh to have room to pull out the blower fan it has three bolts on it as you move it you will see foam around inside the fire wall take it out. you can just go to home depo and look for water proof foam put in there and it will be tight spot when you put blower fan when you installl it back in there. its easy fix but can be crowed in that spot if you have a/c part in there.

I had the same problem. I had a rock go threw the windshield. About a year after they replaced it. I started to get a puddle when it rained hard. It would run down behind the kick panel, and fill up the floor board. I finally filled the channel behind the windshield rubber with silicone. It hasn't leaked since.

mine does it to only when it rains tho there will be a spot in my pass side floor bord iv sat in it whn it rains and cant see it so idk itsa mistory

I have the exact same problem on my 92 and i could never figure it out.... now im changing the floor pan and still have the same issue

i just fixed my leak today, all i did was put the caulking compound around the base of the blower fan and it hasn't leaked and it was raining really hard tonight.

Yeah how about this rain we're getting right now in Oregon? It's raining cats and dogs the past couple days. Good thing I already pulled my carpet to Herculine the floor, went out to work on the Jeep today and found a bunch of puddles...

I have the same water leak as everyone else in my passenger side footwell. I'll have to look into the heater fan motor gasket and a/c drain, I suspect one of or both of those is where my leak is coming from too.

I also have a leak on the driver's side footwell, could be from the windshield since the previous owner put silicone all around the outside windshield trim (still leaks tho), the driver side footwell actually collects much more water than the passenger side, this is the worst leak I have. Any suggestions where to look for that leak?

I have a leak in the back near the rear hatch too. Yes, my Jeep leaks water like a sieve. Any suggestions for that one? Could it just be worn hatch weatherstripping? I don't really see any where else water could get in other than the hatch opening.

I haven't been driving the Jeep for a couple weeks, so it's definitely rain water getting in and not a byproduct of running the heat or a/c... when it rains lightly I don't have any issues but with steady rain for two days it's letting quite a bit of water inside.

Sorry to bump an old thread but seems relevant to my situation as well.

I'm assuming that this is the gasket you're talking about. I stuck my finger on it from the inside of the firewall and it's soaked.




I opened up the jeep after a few days of intermittent heavy rain and found a good 2 inches of water on the passenger floorboard. I know it's not the a/c or the heater core since I haven't driven it in over a week and the heater core's been bypassed already since it's shot.

I'm just having trouble believing that that much water (shop vac'ed out 2 gallons or so) would come in right there. Windshield seems fine and hasn't been touched. This appears to be recent as I pulled up the carpet and found almost no rust (but more water!). Most everything under the dash when looking up has dust on it with no signs of it being disturbed by water.

From looking around, slathering it in RTV usually solves the issue and is what I am going to do. Hope it fixes it.

What about water running in the top screws to the luggage rack? Running down the molding?

My heep used to take on water from the air vent tubes to the sunroof. The tubes that get the water away from the gutter up there got clogged over years.

Don't think that's it. I pulled back the molding on the A pillar and it's dry and dusty. Sorry, forgot to mention that.

I went ahead and sealed around the fan housing under the hood where I found the wet foam gasket.

I'm guessing it's been wet for a lot longer than I think, because once I got the carpet pulled back and could see the floorboard, there's a decent amount of rust



Good news is that all of it is still solid and passed the "stab with a screwdriver repeatedly" test, so once it dries out and IF the leak was from the fan gasket that I sealed up I'll wire wheel the floor and hit it with some primer. I should find out soon as the tail end of Hermine is going to hit in a couple hours. Right now I have a space heater in there set to "6th layer of hell" getting everything dried out.

I'm kicking around just removing all of the carpet and putting down bedliner (e.g. Rhino Liner) on the floor boards just because.
