Patching Missing piece of headliner
I’m plan on repairing the headliner on my 89 XJ with sunroof but there is a piece of the fiberglass that has been torn out. I was thinking of different ways to patch it so when I stick the headliner material on it doesn’t look different, but can’t seem to land a solid plan so wanted to put out there to see if anyone has done this before or has any good ideas.

Really, the best thing to do is replace it with one from a pick and pull or wrecking yard. You would need to remove it anyway to replace the material

I agree with 4.3 XJ, the headliner board is a really funky sandwich of material. I was fortunate to have a good one in the donor vehicle - I basically used the one that sucked less. On newer XJs there is an option for roof mounted speakers just inside the hatch, perhaps there is an angle you could work with there. Not knowing your skill level, I'd say finding an intact replacement would be the best option for you
